Job Description

 

Job Title:                    Fleet Courier

Department:              Public Works

Reports To:                 Fleet Maintenance

Prepared By:              Fleet Maintenance

Approved By:              Human Resources

 

SUMMARY

The Fleet courier will be under the direct supervision of the Fleet Manager. His/her primary responsible will be to provide delivery services for the Fleet Division.  This position requires frequent driving trips to pick up parts, supplies and equipment.  There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Check-in parts and re-stock shelves as parts are received 

Clean and maintain work area in the shop.  May also be required to clean and maintain other areas in and around the facility including emptying garbage cans.

Washing cars 

Pick-up and return parts as needed 

Shuttle vehicles as needed 

Other duties as assigned 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).  Minimum six months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have the ability to find addresses in the Salt Lake valley. 

 

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Basic computer skills and experience in the use of computerized inventory control software preferred.  Ability to use a radio/cell phone communication system effectively. 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to understand, read, write and speak fluently in the English language.  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, procedure manuals, operating and maintenance instructions.  

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. 

 

PERSONAL/SOCIAL SKILLS

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, and vendors.  Accept assignments willingly and with a positive attitude. Willingly accepts shift changes and overtime as needed. 

 

SAFETY/SITE SKILLS

Must have knowledge of and observe safety rules, regulations and safe work practices related to a fleet maintenance environment.  Immediately takes appropriate measures to insure personal safety and the safety of others.  Reports safety concerns immediately to a supervisor or the Fleet Superintendent. Attend safety training/meetings as required.  

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid Utah drivers license.  Must possess a fork lift certification and have at least 6 months hands-on experience operating a forklift.

Exposure to moving mechanical parts and machinery.  Exposure to extreme cold/heat; wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; and toxic or caustic chemicals.  Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.  Exposure to stressful situations is inherent in dealing with fellow employees, vendors, the public, constant deadlines and varying workloads and long work hours.  

As support staff to emergency crews, the employee may be subject to temporary or permanent shift changes, mandatory overtime, and call-outs as deemed appropriate to provide necessary services.  Every effort will be made to provide advance notice whenever possible.
